As we dive deeper into 1 Corinthians this week, be sure to note that the church at Corinth had it’s unique challenges. The challenge we face as Christ-followers today may be as “novel” to us as the Coronavirus, but it doesn’t mean God’s Word doesn’t speak to us in the midst of this challenge. Today I’m reminded (in 1 Corinthians 3) that we are God’s fellow workers…and that we all have an incredible opportunity to join with God in building up those around us this week. Make the most of this opportunity by letting someone in your family know what God is showing you in His Word. And try reaching out to those in your Discipleship Group (via Zoom or over the phone) to see how they are doing…and to be an encouragement to them:)

  • Spiritual Disciplines / Contemplative Reading is when we bring all of ourselves to the text: eyes, questions, circumstances and heart. “For this to happen the text should be read carefully, in a way that facilitates a savoring or bathing in the text,…as we open our eyes, ears and heart in ways that allow God’s Word to soak into us.” Try this a couple times this week: 1) Focus on a small section of Scripture, perhaps one verse or even part of a verse, or one story in particular.  Read it slowly…and prayerfully. 2)The metaphor of "chewing on" Scripture is often used in reference to mediation. Ponder it’s meaning. Look at specific words and circumstances. 3) "Pray the text."  Have a conversation with God about what His Spirit is saying to you. 4) And then respond appropriately in obedience or thanksgiving.
